In Japan, Spring is the time of Hanami. During this event, families, friends, coworkers all gather together to picnic under a cherry blossom tree. It's very eventful.
Unfortunately, cherry blossoms do not stick around for a long time, so the competition of getting a good spot is intense. Often, young people are seen sitting under a tree all morning to reserve their spots for later that evening. In the end, it's all worth it. Parties, food, karaoke, sake, dancing, it's all very festive.
